Nanovaccine Institute researcher Marian Kohut of Iowa State University was named a first-ever Barbara E. Forker Professor in Kinesiology. Barbara Forker was instrumental in physical education at Iowa State University and beyond. Forker served as the first chairperson of the co-ed Department of Physical Education, which has evolved into the Department of Kinesiology. This is the first time anyone has been named to these endowed positions.
Kohut’s multidisciplinary research focuses on the effects of exercising and aging on the human immune system. She was the first to demonstrate the beneficial effects of exercise on vaccine responses in older adults.
