Maureen Donovan, PhD
Dr. Donovan’s research interests include novel drug delivery systems in mucosal drug delivery, especially via the nasal, gastrointestinal, and vaginal epithelia; and mechanisms of drug absorption and disposition. Her laboratory has been actively investigating the absorption of compounds via the nasal cavity for over 20 years. Current research is focused on identifying the mechanisms controlling the preferential disposition of materials absorbed across the nasal mucosa and transferred to the central nervous system. Donovan’s lab is examining the ability of uptake and efflux transporters, along with endocytotic processes, to transfer materials from the nasal cavity to the brain while bypassing the blood-brain barrier.
